Dumb Cane

 


Scientific name: Dieffenbachia amoena

Description: Elliptic-oblong leaves up to 1 1/2 feet long and 1 foot wide grow on 1 foot stalks. The dark green leaves are irregularly splashed with creamy white along the main veins.

Light: Provide bright filtered light in spring, summer and fall. Bright light, including direct sunlight is best during winter.

Temperature: Room temperatures above 60 degrees F

Methods of propagation: Tip cuttings, stem sections and air layering

Comment: Sap from the plant can numb the vocal cords, hence the name Dumb Cane.
