Areca Palm


Scientific name: Chrysalidocarpus letescens

Description: Slow growing palm producing clusters of reedlike stems that carry arching fronds on 2-foot-long, deeply furrowed, yellowish-orange stalks. The fronds are divided into many stiff, glossy, yellowish-green segments up to 2 feet long and 1/2 inch wide. Segments are arranged in almost opposite pairs on a prominent midrib.

Light: Filtered, direct sunlight

Temperature: Warm room temperature

Methods of propagation: Fresh seed or basal suckers

Comment: This plant is very good for interior situations. Larger plants make excellent accents for home decor.
