Bougainvillea


Scientific name: Bougainvillea glabra

Description: A spiny tropical vine with sparse, oval leaves. Blooming in summer, the vine has brilliantly colored bracts – yellow to purple to magenta – -that surround the small, plain flowers.

Light: At least four hours of direct sunlight daily to bloom; bright light at other times

Temperature: Normal room temperatures during the active growth period. During the resting period, the plant must stay cool, but not below 50 degrees F.

Methods of propagation: Cuttings in a heated propagation tray

Comment: This is an outstanding, colorful plant for use on patios and decks, which can withstand high temperatures.
