Description
Stems grow from coarse, woody, scaly rootstocks. Tobosa greens up readily after rain and turns ashy gray during drought. The spikes are bearded at the base and purplish to pale when ripe. The glumes are wedge shaped, broad, and hairy at the top.
Tobosa is a perennial, warm-season, native - 12 to 24 inches tall.
Fair grazing for livestock. Poor grazing for wildlife.
Habitat
Grows in bunches on flats and in heavy soils.
