Allison C. Mayer is a native of Rochester, NY. She attended primary school in the Owego-Apalachin (NY) Central School District and attended middle school and graduated high school (valedictorian) at American Heritage School, Ft. Lauderdale, FL, in 1979. Ms. Mayer received her Bachelor of Journalism degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia in 1983. From there, she worked in various capacities as a newspaper editor at the Daily Pantagraph in Bloomington, Ill., and at the Times-Union and Democrat and Chronicle in Rochester, NY, until 1995. She was director of public affairs and director of publications at the Eastman School of Music, University of Rochester, from 1996 until 2001. In January 2002 she began studies in the MPS program of the Horticulture Department in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Cornell University, Ithaca.
