Galveston County Master Gardener John Jons' presentation will include common species identification, Integrated Weed Management plus chemical options and practical solutions for controlling weeds in the home landscape. Do you have a bumper crop of something growing in your yard that you did not plant? Is your lawn more weeds than grass? Come learn what you can do about the problem weeds that are taking over your yard.

Do you want to learn how to grow great tomatoes? The third in a series of three programs by Galveston County Master Gardener Ira Gervais on learning all about how to grow great tomatoes here in Galveston County. The program will provide an overview on identifying various tomato diseases and insect stress factors and how to minimize them to increase yields.

Galveston County Master Gardener Clyde Holt will give a basic discussion on bonsai styling techniques followed by a hands on workshop where each person will pot and style their own tree. Participants will receive a green mound juniper, pot, potting soil, pruners, wire, and instructions. ***NOTE: The material cost is $25:00 per person with a limit of 10 persons. The money will be collected at the event. Fee will cover expenses if the pot supplier has not gone up on prices.***
Clyde has also been a member of the Houston Bonsai Society for 12 years and attended many workshops and classes across the country. He has given workshops and lectures from Dallas to Edinburg, garden clubs, and three Texas Master Gardener Conferences.

Iris enthusiast and Galveston County Master Gardener Monica Martens will provide an overview of how to care for and increase the variety of hybrids and species irises in our community. This program includes a tour in the Demonstration Garden of the two new iris beds. Focusing specifically on this hardy type for our climate, this presentation covers how to obtain Louisiana Irises and share/trade among friends. Best practices for abundant blooms will be discussed, as well as landscaping mishaps and successes. We will also provide an update on our iris preservation work.

Galveston County Master Gardener Gene Speller will give a 1 hour 30-minute Aquaponics Gardening PowerPoint presentation at the Extension office. Galveston County Master Gardener Briana Etie will then follow up with a 30-minute tour of the 600-gallon aquaponics unit in the Discovery Garden. Points for discussion in the presentation and/or tour will include the following aquaponics topics: overall concept, benefits, system operations, plant and fish selections, pest control, and additional resources.

Learn how a greenhouse can improve and extend your growing seasons, giving you enjoyment year round.

Don't let that water go down the drain! Learn to collect and store rainwater. Nat Gruesen, Galveston County Master Gardener and Certified Rainwater Harvesting Specialist, will present rainwater harvesting practices and ways to incorporate rainwater collection into your residential landscaping along with methods for making your rainwater barrel.
