Frost Protecting with GroWeb

You may still have the Halloween spirit, you may even still have the Halloween costume, but I'm going to give you a good trick-or-treat idea. This product I'm using to make me look sort of ghostly today is called Grow-Web. Sold in your local nurseries as Grow-Web or you can order it off of the Internet on the web by going to the plant answers page and searching for Indeco. That's the company that sells it, Indeco out of San Marcos. You can also get it at some of the local nurseries a Plant Guard Plantgarden.

But what you want to do is cover these plants that may be frosted out on the first frost of November, which is, as I have predicted, November the 22nd. I'm the most accurate frost predictor in the area, mainly because I'm the only one. We all end up with green tomatoes when that first frost comes. All we have to do is cover with this product. It will give us five degrees cold protection. And should I be wrong, it will still let your plants grow and mature the fruit a lot faster.

So cover your tomatoes, your Satsuma, keep them from that first frost and we may not have another one until Christmas, and that will be the biggest treat you can get.

This has been Jerry Parsons, Vegetable Specialist for the Texas Agricultural Extension Service, the Weekend Gardener.
