CITIZENSHIP

Courses in this category are a part of the University Core Curriculum. Any course in American history may be used for the history requirement. Texas history may be used for one of the two courses in history. Only POLS 206 and 207 may be used for the political science requirement. If a course has been transferred in by title and is to be used in this category, it must be approved for use by the History Department or Political Science Department. No more than three hours of this requirement in either area (POLS or HIST) may be fulfilled through credit by examination. State law permits the substitution of three hours of history and three hours of political science for a student in the program of an approved senior ROTC unit. With the approval of the dean of the appropriate college, students successfully completing their required four semesters of upper-level ROTC curriculum will be deemed to have completed the equivalent of Political Science 206 or 207 plus History 105 or 106 (or another appropriate course) for a total of six hours. Students pursuing teacher certification are not permitted to substitute ROTC credits for this requirement and should only use American history courses approved for teacher certification. (The HIST/POLS substitution with military science courses has changed twice in recent years. Consult the catalog of the year that you entered TAMU.)
