Gardeners never stop learning. There is always a new group of plants,
new varieties, new gardening techniques or some long forgotten gardening wisdom from years past.
Bookstores are well stocked with volumes on every aspect of gardening you can imagine while dozens
of gardening magazines provide a monthly dose of information and inspiration. However the vast majority of printed material is much more applicable to other
parts of the country than it is to central Texas. Our unique soils and climate render gardening
wisdom from foreign countries like England, New Jersey and California of marginal help or totally
misleading for would be gardeners in our region. There are a number of printed resources that are very helpful in our area.
The following is a brief listing of books and magazines for Texas gardeners to get you started.
There are likely some good books and magazines that we have overlooked. Nevertheless, those included
in the list below are will worth perusing. Some of these books out of print but are available through
various online used book sources.
