All trees need to be pruned at times in their lifespan.  Pruning, done properly, can improve a tree’s structural strength, maintain its health, enhance its beauty, and protect property around it. Pruning done  incorrectly or carelessly, however, can ruin a tree permanently.

Among the topics to be discussed are the following:

  • tree selection as perhaps the most important pruning decision
  • different reasons for pruning
  • necessary tools, their maintenance and precautions during use
  • when and how to make cuts
  • what needs to be considered at different times in a tree’s life
  • pruning single-trunk vs. multi-trunk trees
  • when to bring in a professional and what kind
