Writing An Essay for Horticulture 315

In the context of Horticulture 315, an essay is a brief document that answers a question, states a position, describes a problem, or contrasts points of view. Essays are limited to one, single-spaced, typed page with 1 inch margins printed in a font no smaller than 12 point.

The grade will be awarded on the basis of "style" and "substance," with the latter receiving about 75% of the weight. "Style" refers to grammar, spelling, use of appropriate vocabulary, and overall writing quality. "Substance" refers to use of facts, depth of understanding, thoroughness in answering the question posed, and indication of a well-thought out position.

Essays submitted (on paper and posted on the Web) later than the due date will be penalized 10% per day.

Appropriate Citation Style for HORT 315 Essays
