INTRODUCTION:

Knowledge of produce quality can be useful in several situations:    knowing when to harvest produce from the garden; selecting produce at the market for use in meal preparation; grading produce that is to be sent to market; preparing produce for contests and exhibits; and judging produce exhibited by others in a contest.

OBJECTIVES:

The goal of this activity is to introduce the produce, to study variations in exterior and interior quality of produce and to sample some raw and cooked fruits and vegetables.

ACTIVITY:
  • Evaluate the produce samples in lab ranking each item. Determine which of the four samples is best, second best, third best, and poorest samples.
  • Participate in the discussion of quality for each item.
