Herbaceous ornamentals, annuals and perennials, are often the accents needed to personalize a garden.  Although they seem ephemeral, often having specific seasons when they are active and other seasons when they are inactive, they can be almost carefree if basic garden management is employed.  As with woody ornamentals, good choice of ornamentals and proper installation should enable this part of  the landscape to be low maintenance and organic gardening principles are all that is needed.

The objectives of this exercise are to learn proper methods of planting and maintaining herbaceous ornamentals.

• Develop a planting plan for the ornamental areas in the Holistic Garden.
• Produce transplants for the Holistic Garden.
• Plant and maintain the ornamental areas of the Holistic Garden.
