INTRODUCTION:

Graftage is the technique in which the separate parts of one or more plants are caused to grow together as one plant. The two basic forms of graftage are grafting and budding.  Most tree fruits are propagated by graftage, some landscape plants, such as bush and tree roses, camellias, special forms of dogwood, and the roses grown for cut flowers in greenhouses are propagated by graftage. Graftage is used to produce such novelty plants as braided ficus and grafted albino cacti.

OBJECTIVES:

The objective of the lab activity is to learn to graft and bud plants. (The plants to be grafted will depend on the time of year and plant material available.)

ACTIVITY:
  • Depending on the time of year, do one or more of the following procedures:
T-bud citrus
Inlay bark graft on pecan
Splice graft cactus
