Flordacrest
Released by the University of Florida in
1988. Flordacrest is a good variety to follow
Flordaking, ripening five days later, but should not be grown
north of zone 5 because of its low chill requirement (400 C.U.).
Flordacrest crops heavily and must be thinned well to size
the fruit. Fruit quality is very good however when managed
properly, with excellent firmness and color, and low split-pits.
Size can be to 2.5" if thinned well. In some
years the flesh can develop an unattractive red in later
pickings.
Chill Req.: 400
C.U., Ripe: -66 D.B.E. ( about 5/10 in Central
Texas). Zones: 5-6.
