January 28 - 30, 2002

Brazos Center • 3232 Briarcrest Drive • Bryan, Texas

Landscape Design Study Course II, Series XVIII, will be offered in January. This series, which is held in conjunction with the Texas Garden Clubs, Inc. and Texas Cooperative Extension, will be offered in four separate schools, approximately six months apart, in the Bryan-College Station area. Participants may take the four courses in any sequence. Garden Club members, Master Gardeners, nurserymen, and others who are interested in furthering their knowledge of landscape design are welcome to attend.

For this session, a very interesting Special Topic lecture will be presented by Jill Nokes, well-known Texas author and naturalist, who will speak on ‘Landscapes Influenced By Nature.’ She is a graduate of the University of Texas and earned a master’s degree in Horticulture from Texas A&M University. Her book on the propagation and cultivation of native Texas plants, How To Grow Native Plants of Texas and the Southwest, has become a standard for native plant enthusiasts in our region, and has recently been reprinted in an updated edition. Jill currently lives in Austin, Texas, where she has a landscape consulting business and writes extensively on plant topics. Recent projects include the landscaping of several AIA award winning houses, a ranch house near Laredo, a German-Texan heritage garden in Columbus, and many other projects in the Austin and Central Texas area.

Master Gardeners who complete a course may apply 12 hours of credit to their requirements for continuing education.

Texas Garden Club members who successfully pass the examinations for all four courses are eligible to become nationally accredited Landscape Design Consultants.

Certified Nursery Professionals who pass the course may apply this to their requirement for recertification with the Texas Nursery and Landscape Association (TNLA).

Registration for the course will be $60.00. A text for the course, Stewards of the Land (National Council of State Garden Clubs, Inc.), will be available, with chapters which cover thoroughly the materials to be presented in all four of the courses of the series. Those students wishing to purchase the book may add an additional $40 to their registration fee, and the book will be reserved for them to pick up the first morning of the course. This text will replace in large part the syllabus which accompanied the course in previous years.

Registration forms may be requested from Lenora Sebesta, Department of Extension Horticulture, 2134 TAMU, College Station, TX 77843-2134, by telephone (979) 845-7342, by FAX (979) 845-8906, or by e-mail at
