Dr. William C. Welch, Professor and Landscape Horticulturist at Texas A&M University, announces that Course II, Series XX, of the Landscape Design Study Course will take place February 20-21, 2006, in College Station, Texas. The School is held in conjunction with the Texas Garden Clubs, Inc. and Texas Cooperative Extension, and is offered in four separate schools, approximately six months apart, in the Bryan-College Station area. Participants may take the four courses in any sequence. Garden Club members, Master Gardeners, nurserymen and others who are interested in furthering their knowledge of landscape design are welcome to attend.
This year the Special Topic lecture will be "From Lent Lillies to Naked Ladies...Bright Ideas for Texas Bulbs," by Greg Grant, Texas Horticulturist.
Master Gardeners who complete a course may apply 12 hours of credit to their requirements for continuing education.
Texas Garden Club members who successfully pass the examinations for all four courses are eligible to become nationally accredited Landscape Design Consultants.
Texas Certified Nursery Professionals who pass the course may apply this to their requirement for recertification with the Texas Nursery and Landscape Association (TNLA).
Details of the course, such as registration forms and cost, will soon be posted on the Southern Garden website: http://aggie-horticulture.tamu.edu/southerngarden.html. View the schedule of events, which is already posted, at the same location. The text Stewards of the Land (National Council of State Garden Clubs, Inc.), will be available with chapters which cover thoroughly the materials to be presented in all four of the courses of the series
Those students wishing to purchase the book may add an additional amount of $40 to the registration fee amount. The book will be reserved for them to pick up the first morning of the course. The text replaces in large part the syllabus which accompanied the course in previous years.
