Definitions

Diploid:  Having a pair of chromosomes.  (Humans are diploids.  You receive one set of chromosomes from your mother, and one set of chromosomes from your father!)

Monotypic:  Only one member within the group.

Tetraploid:  Having four sets of chromosomes.

Triploid:  having three sets of chromosomes.
