Phillipine Violet, Barleria cristata. The name commemorates
the French botanist, Jacques Barrelier, who died in 1673. The inappropriately-named
Phillipine violet is a native of India. The flowers are pale violet-blue.
This plant was discovered growing at the zoo and was brought into the area
by Paul Cox of the San Antonio Botanical Center. It will grow in full to
