Green Ash is the most widely distributed ash in Texas, growing over the eastern third of the state. It grows on limestone clays, acid sands and sandy loams, but in its native habitats along rivers and streams, swamps and floodplains, it is almost always associated with water (although some authors report is becomes more drought tolerant once established). It does not do well in areas under 3,000 feet in central and southern Texas.
