Pungent gray-green, and sometimes woolly foliage is densely branched, evergreen, with narrow, thread-like leaves less than an inch long. Growing in a rounded, shrubby habit, it becomes woody quite quickly. Bright yellow round flower heads about the size of a dime and composed only of disc flowers are borne on single stalks above the foliage in July and August.

Taken internally, it is used against intestinal parasites and to aid uterine, hepatic, and digestive functions. Leaves are used in meat, fish, and grain dishes, and dried in potpourri.
