Dotty Woodson has a Bachelor and Masters Degrees in Horticulture from Tarleton State University. Taught horticulture at Tarrant County Junior College for 7 years. Has been a County Extension Agent for horticulture in Tarrant County for two years.

She is a Texas Certified Nursery Professional, Certified Irrigation Auditor and Private Pest Control Applicator.

She has grown and studied orchids for 22 years. She teaches a beginner orchid class at the Fort Worth Botanic Garden each spring and fall. She has grown and studied carnivorous plants for 10 years. She and her husband have 5,000 square of greenhouses full of orchids, ferns and carnivorous plants. Mainly orchids. They have hybridized and registered many Phalaenopsis.

She writes a weekly Question and Answer column, "Down to Earth" and a "Tips of the Week" column for the Fort Worth Star Telegram. The columns appear in the Gardening section every Friday.

She appears every Wednesday morning on WBAP 820 at 5:55 a.m. on the Don Harris "Good Morning Texas" Show.

She has made 8 thirty minute videos and 1 hour long special for the City of Fort Worth Community Cable Television show "Learning with Extension" and "Your Garden".

She appeared in the gardening section in the USDA video, "Team Nutrient".

She is one of the authors for the book Gardening in Fort Worth.

Her articles have appeared in Neil Sperry's Gardens and More, Fine Gardening and SWOGA Bulletin.

She has appeared on the news for many local television stations.

She is a member of Texas County Ag Agents Association, National County Ag Agents Association, American Orchid Society, Southwest Regional Orchid Growers Association, Fort Worth Orchid Society, Greater North Texas Orchid Society, International Carnivorous Plant Society, Fort Worth Botanical Society, Fort Worth Garden Club, National Wildflower Research Center, Botanical Research Institute of Texas and the Crestwood Garden Club.
