ELM: Wildlife
Gardening...
Wildlife gardening can create small habitats that provide the three
essential ingredients for a variety of wildlife. These include: food,
water, and shelter. This can be as simple as providing feeders, birdbaths,
and nest boxes for birds, or as elaborate as restoring native vegetation.
The goal is to provide places for birds and small mammals to feed and
drink, escape from predators and raise their young.
Creating 'backyard
habitat' through the use of native plant species not only provides habitat,
but also assists in reducing water use as well as the need for potentially
harmful chemical pesticides.
