Admissions
The Office of Admissions and Records can supply applications for admission and financial aid. Applications should be in 4 to 6 months before the semester begins, particularly for those interested in assistantships and fellowships. International applications must conform to University deadlines which may differ from the Departmental deadlines. Departmental Deadlines for spring and summer semester applications are September 15 of the preceeding year and January 15 is the deadline for subsequent fall semester applications. Documents filled out on-line or sent to the Office of Admissions include: on-line appplication form, processing fee, transcripts from all institutions attended, GRE (Graduate Records Examinations) scores from ETS, TOEFL scores. Documents sent directly to the Department include: statement of purpose and three letters of reference from faculty members (form is available on the Office of Admissions website). Mail these to Graduate Coordinator, Texas A&M University, Dept. of Horticultural Sciences, TAMU 2133, College Station, TX 77843-2133.. Admission is based on the person's academic record, letters of recom- mendation, statement of purpose and results of the Graduate Record Examination (GRE). The GRE and Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) results must be received by the Office of Admissions and Records before an application can be processed. A application fee is required of all U.S. citizens, permanent residents and international applicants applying for admission. Students from other countries not only must meet these requirements but also must demonstrate the ability to read, write and understand English. Those whose native language is other than English must score at least 550 on the TOEFL and also must pass an English Proficiency exam after arrival at Texas A&M University.
