Many items you might have around the house can be turned into helpful gardening tools or planters.

Seeding - You can easily construct  a planting/seeding device from a piece of PVC pipe.  Two inch diameter pipe works best, but one inch and three inch works well too.  Determine the length needed by extending the pipe to the depth of the planting bed from the walking path with enough extra to ensure the comfort of the gardener.  This could be from a sitting, standing or kneeling position.  Cut one end at a 30 to 45 degree angle so it can be used to furrow the spot.  If it is difficult to place seeds in the other end of the pipe, attach a funnel.

Pots & Planters - Convert plastic milk and soda containers into pots or planters by cutting off their tops. These can also be buried in the beds to prevent the plant from over taking the bed, or to keep weeds out.
