I hve 4 good sized pomegrante trees (1 wonderful and 3 unknown supposedly dwarfs that are 12′ tall). The wonderful freezes back to ground level in cold winters (kaufman co.). I get good production but most fruit is rotton inside, a few are good. The seeds get a dark grayish to brown look even though the outside looks perfect. Do you think this heart rot or some other disease?
Yes Mike, Sorry to be late responding, but it appears to be heart rot. Have seen some great on-line resources on control lately, but none of this has EPA approval. Most folks want to grow pomegranates in our area with minimal or no chemical inputs, so we hope to be working with some organic products this coming spring to see if we can help manage heart rot. Seems it gets worse with age in a planting too.
