Cultural Practices Fall/Winter 2006/2007

Seeds were received and sown in August.  All seed varieties were germinated at the Overton location and then distributed to the other locations.  Rooted cuttings were received in early September and transplanted into 4.5" pots.  While plants were being grown in the greenhouse, pesticides were used to control insect and fungal pests.  Once the plants were transplanted to outside containers no pesticides were used. 

Plants were transplanted into 16" containers 7 November in College Station, in 21 November Overton , and 15 November in Dallas.  All locations used Sunshine #1 potting mix.  In College Station plants were fertigated alternating between Peters 15-5-15 Cal Mag and 15-16-17 water-soluble fertilizer at 200ppm at least once a week depending on rainfall. In Overton plants were fertilized once per week with 200ppm 15-5-15 Cal Mag water soluble fertilizer. In Dallas Osmocote 14-14-14 slow release fertilizer was applied at the rate of two tablespoons/pot at planting. Plants were then fertigated with Peters 15-5-15 water-soluble fertilizer at 100 ppm.
