Thanks for a Job Well Done!
Dr. Roland Roberts, long-time Vegetable Specialist in the Texas High Plains, officially retired from the Texas Agricultural Extension Service on August 31. Dr. Roberts devoted over 30 years to helping growers succeed in the vegetable industry. 'Rollie' was recognized by his peers as one of the premier vegetable specialists in the U.S. He will be missed!

National Spinach Conference
San Antonio, Texas
December 14, 15, and 16, 2000

Attention spinach enthusiasts, growers, Extension personnel, plant breeders, researchers, seed company and technical development representatives, shippers, processors, and all others interested in spinach! The Cooperative Texas A&M University and The University of Arkansas Spinach Program will host the National Spinach Conference in San Antonio, Texas in December.

Spinach Conference Program
The tour of the spinach production area will include a visit to our spinach nursery where new varieties and breeding lines are being screened for white-rust and blue-mold resistance. The Texas Winter Garden annually harvests about 10,000 acres of both fresh-market and processing spinach. Two spinach processors, Del Monte and Agrilink Foods, are located within the region.

Registration fee: $50 - meals and tours - Late registration (after November 1, 2000) - $75 Send registration fee to Larry Stein or Frank Dainello.

Conference headquarters will be the Omni Hotel in San Antonio. We have secured a special room rate of $70 for a single, and $89 for a double for this event.
