Pesticide Questions? Call the National Pesticide Information Center

The National Pesticide Information Center urges anyone with questions about pesticides to find answers by calling toll-free to 1-800-858-7378 (from 6:30 am to 4:30 pm PT except holidays), to speak with a "real live person" about any concerns having to do with pesticides.

Typical questions are:

  • Are you pregnant and wondering about using a pesticide inside your home?

  • Do you have questions about the safe use of insect repellents on your children?

  • Is your neighbor using pesticides, and you're worried about possible risks?

  • Do you have questions about the safe use of pesticides to control disease-carrying pests, such as mosquitoes and ticks?

  • Did you have a termite control treatment and now wonder when it's safe to return?

Help is also available to find assistance with:

  • emergency treatment for humans and animals

  • pesticide clean-up and disposal

  • laboratory analyses

  • pesticide incident investigation

The specialists at NPIC will help callers to:

understand the technical/chemical information on the labels

  • assess toxicity and risks

  • explore possible alternatives

  • learn about safe-use practices

  • identify the signs of pesticide poisoning

  • obtain general information on pesticide regulations.
