The mission of this project is to demonstrate the practical application of compost in the home landscape. This includes: composting techniques and technologies, soil preparation, mulching, and nutrition. Both home, as well as commercial sources of compost and composted bi-products will be evaluated, under controlled conditions, to determine their overall suitability for landscape use. Special emphasis will be placed on the use of "Brazos Bio Soil," combination of composted sewage sludge and composted municipal yard trimmings from the city of Bryan.
Youth education will be an important component of the Demonstration Project. A composting curriculum will be developed focusing on pre-school - 2nd grade. This curriculum will have a strong computer component, as well as hands-on activities conducted at the Demonstration site.
