Angular Leaf Spot

Pseudomonas syringae pv. lachrymans

Symptoms:
Angular leaf spot is a severe disease most common on cucumbers. Disease symptoms first appear as water-soaked lesions on underneath surface of leaves that occur between the minor veins of the leaves. These lesions may exude a whitish-liquid under some conditions. As the disease progresses, the infected spots turn brown and the leaf material falls out, leaving angular holes in the leaves.

Control:
Fungicide sprayed at first symptom appearance is helpful. Handling infected plants during harvesting quickly spreads the disease. Crop rotations with at least 2 years between crops are important. Use seeds free of the disease organism and plant resistant varieties where available.
