Pesticide Injury

Atrazine

Symptoms:
While crop rotation is an important tool for insect and disease control, careful attention must be paid to the "herbicide history" of a particular field. Atrazine is a powerful broadleaf herbicide widely used in grain plantings, but its residue may persist for several seasons limiting the broadleaf crops that can be planted afterward. Atrazine plants appear dwarfed, and may develop severe leaf scorch. Plant vigor and yield are reduced.

Control:
Keep careful records of cropping rotations, and avoid planting sensitive crops in fields where persistent chemicals have been applied.
