Pesticide Injury

2,4-D

Symptoms:
2,4 D is a widely used broadleaf herbicide on roadsides, in grain crops, and in home lawns. It is volatile and may drift for considerable distances from the point of application, affecting sensitive crops including the cucurbits and tomatoes. New growth is distorted and twisted (referred to as epinasty), and leaves may become fan-shaped with flattened petioles.

Control:
Prohibit use of volatile 2,4 D esters within several hundred yards of sensitive crops.
