Squash Mosaic

Squash Mosaic Virus (SQMV)

Symptoms:
Symptoms appear on first or second true leaves, but may be absent on leaves that develop later. The first leaves are distorted and mottled, and while the older plant may appear normal, reduced vigor and poor branching result. Fruit may be mottled and severely distorted. Cantaloupe, pumpkins and squash are most affected.

Control:
Since this virus is seed borne, using virus-free seeds is critical. Insect vectors such as cucumber beetles and grasshoppers may spread the infection.
