Phytophthora Root Rot

Symptoms:
Phytophthora is a widely distributed organism that often infects plants early in the growing season. Symptoms may be hidden until "apparently" healthy plants collapse very quickly, particularly as they experience the stress that accompanies fruit loading. Plants often wilt and die without changing color.

Control:
Proper irrigation scheduling and excellent drainage are imperative. All cucurbits with "wet feet" are predisposed to Phytophthora. Raised bed planting may facilitate good drainage.
