Symptoms:
Hard brown patches of necrotic tissue develop on the rind of affected fruit. In cross section, the areas appear as corky layers occuring between the outer rind and the edible fruit tissue within. External symptoms are usually absent in affected watermelons.Control:
There is no chemical treatment for this disease, and varietal resistance is controversial. Avoid planting melons in fields where rind necrosis has been a problem.
