CONTAINER ANNUALS When yard space is limited or color is needed for your landscape, consider using annuals grown in containers. They can be placed anywhere, moved around or changed out at anytime. For a dramatic effect, try grouping several together on a patio or steps.
Almost any type of container can be used as long as it has adequate drainage to keep the roots from getting water logged. If you choose to use a decorative container with a solid bottom, put some gravel in the bottom and place a draining type pot inside it.
In caring for your container plants, start with a good potting mix. Remember, they dry out faster than plants grown in the ground. Fertilize regularly with a water-soluble fertilizer. Rotating the container will keep the plants growing evenly.
Pansies, snapdragons, sweet alyssum, Dianthus, chrysanthemum and daffodils are good choices for cool season plants.
