Maroon Bluebonnet, Lupinus texensis selection

The maroon bluebonnet is a selection of the native bluebonnet carefully selected for its outstanding color. Selections are made based on their color, seeds are saved from these selctions, and the seeds are planted in isolated fields to prevent cross pollination from other colors. The cycle is repeated until the desired color is obtained in a very high percentage of the population.

This project is the work of Dr. Jerry Parsons, Extension Vegetable Specialist, stationed at San Antonio.
