The American Society for Horticultural Science Web Site -- Computer Applications in Horticulture
1998 Business Meeting
July 13, 1998
Charlotte, NC

Agenda

Presiding: Dan Lineberger, Chair 1997-1998
Secretary: Dan Lineberger (in Alice Russell's absence)

The Computers in Horticulture Working Group (COMP WG) sponsored a colloquium at the ASHS meeting in Charlotte titled "Virtual Horticulture Curricula". The colloquium was held on Monday afternoon, 13 July, 1998. The program announcement can be found on the WG Web site at:

Attendance was lighter than anticipated due to competition with other sessions.

The business meeting was held immediately following the colloquium. Drs. Carole Basset, Tim Rhodus, Gary Kling, Laurence Sistrunk, Hal Balbach, Tim Ng, and Erv Evans were in attendance. Dan Lineberger chaired the business meeting.

Erv Evans announced that Alice Russell, Chair-elect of the WG, had taken a medical disability leave from N. C. State, and would likely retire. It was decided to elect a replacement to assume the Chairmanship upon the expiration of Dan Lineberger's term at the Minneapolis meeting. Tim Rhodus was elected secretary, and will transition to the WG Chair for the Orlando meeting.

Topics for colloquia/symposia proposals were discussed. The consensus was that we had devoted most of our attention for the past 3 meetings to Internet technology and the World Wide Web. The group decided to organize a workshop for the Minneapolis meeting related to research applications of computers including data acquisition, analysis and reporting.

The workshop titled "The PC As An Analytical Instrument" was organized by Dan Lineberger, and is scheduled for Saturday, July 31, 1999 from 10 - 12 am. The workshop program can be viewed at:

The workshop will be followed by the annual business meeting.

Respectfully submitted,
Dan Lineberger, COMP WG Chair
