Zoysiagrass

Transcript

Well, last week we talked a little bit about planting grass and we talked about this zoysia, the new grass that we're recommending for replacements in this area for several reasons. Mainly because it will take as much shade as St. Augustine, it's drought tolerant, doesn't need as much mowing, less fertilizer. There are a lot of good benefits to zoysia. But of course, like any grass is this year, it's expensive, so you want to make sure you do it right.

You've got two choices, rather it's with St. Augustine or Zoysia. You can either get these pallets like this or get these sections like this by the pallet, and that's the cheapest way to do it, by the pallet, especially if you are replacing large areas of lawn. You can just lay them down just like tile, such as we have here and this is what we call a solid set lawn. Or you can also take these and cut them up into smaller sections such as this, or even smaller such as that.

One of the main things you need to do before you lay this out, regardless of whether you use sections or whether you use these big blocks, is to make sure that your ground in raked clean. We need to have all the stubble raked off as much as possible, and make sure it's level. If you lay sod on an unleveled ground it will be unleveled for a long, long time. So flatten it out and put your grass. If you're using plugs like this go ahead and till the area so you'll have a nice area in which to sink your plugs. Most importantly be sure to roll it so the grass will get good contact with the soil and water it about everyday for the first two or three weeks.
