Texas Apples at the Love Creek Orchard
I don't want no stinking bug on my peaches, but there they are, stinkbugs, causing them to bleed all over the place.
Of course, if you've got a lot of peaches they don't seem to do that much damage. I'm down here at the Devine Love Creek Pick Your Own in Devine, Texas on 2200 Hwy out toward Yancey, right there by the Devine Airport. They've got a lot of peaches around here that are ready to harvest this weekend so come on down. They are open from 8-5 and regardless of how many critters you've got trying to eat the peaches, maybe you'll get some and they'll get some too. And you know they're organically grown.
Of course some of you may not like peaches, well, I've got good news. The first apples of the season, the first apples in the country, are ready to go. This is Dorsett Golden and Anna. They're still a little bit green, a little bit firm, but the good thing about that is they are just perfect for making the best apple pie or apple crisp you ever laid your lips on.
You don't have a recipe do you? I'll take care of that too. Send me a self-addressed stamped envelope to: KENS TV P.O. Box TV 5 in San Antonio, Texas 78299. I will send you some apple recipes; all right you know where to go get it.
This is Jerry Parsons, Vegetable Specialist for the Texas Agricultural Extension Service, the Weekend Gardener.
