Mari-Mums for Fall Color
What do you think about all these beautiful flowers I'm sitting in. This is a picture that was taken in October, this is October, but to make these happen you've got to plant them now, in August.
These are brand new flowers that have just been introduced in the area called mari-mum. Basically they are marigolds but they have tremendously large mum, or chrysanthemum, flowers, and they're cheaper and easier to grow than any chrysanthemums you've ever dealt with. Now to prove that to you over here you will see some yellow and also some gold chrysanthemums that were planted at the same time as these mari-mums were planted in August. As you can see they are nowhere as spectacular as these mari-mums.
Another thing is, we've chosen specific marigolds, and as you look at this big field we've checked the varieties to see exactly which ones are the best for this area. As you can see, some of the larger types break down during heavy rain. Now sometimes we don't have rain in the fall, but sometimes we do, so we don't want to take a chance on that.
So the two mari-mum types that we've chosen for you to purchase and plant in August are one called Discovery and one called Voyager. They come in yellow and orange. So try the mari-mums this year, plant them now and you will have a beautiful Halloween in October.
