Limb Removal

Transcript

The first cut you want to make when you're cutting a limb off is this bottom cut underneath this great big limb so that when you make the top cut and this big part splits down, it won't split the tree down and scar it. So that's the first cut that you want to make underneath and in front of the final cut that you make. Then you can go ahead and make your final cut. Go ahead, lets do it.

[Chain-saw]

Oh! If Garth Brooks can do this, I can do this.

After you've got the second cut made, see we didn't split it off to the back, then you come back and cut it flush with the trunk of the tree right before the collar of the tree and then you will have your limb cut off perfectly. Then you might want to put some tree wound dressing on there and that is the safe way to remove a limb. I kind of like this --- I know what Garth kind of enjoyed about this.

This is Jerry Parsons, Vegetable Specialist for the Texas Agricultural Extension Service, the Weekend Gardener.
