Lantana

1. Q: I purchased some gold trailing lantanas this year and they seemed to be growing beautifully until a few weeks ago. The leaves seems to be spotted and then turn gray, shriveling up and dying. I can't see any pests. Can you tell me what to do?

A: The ONLY thing which will make a lantana go out of bloom is setting a seed crop (berries) and leaf hopper - budworm damage. Since I imagine you are growing the New Gold lantana which is sterile you must have the insect problem. Spray with a systemic insecticide such as Orthene or Isotox every 7 days for 4 consecutive sprays according to label instructions. This, plus adequate moisture, should cause the lantana to rebloom regardless of the heat.
