A Review of Success with School Gardens
Success with School Gardens, by Linda Guy, Cathy Cromell and Lucy Bradley, was created by the Arizona Master Gardeners to help teachers, administrators and parents learn how to start school gardens. Since the book was developed in Arizona, it focuses towards "creating a learning oasis in the desert", but is valuable for anyone who is interested in starting school gardens. It illustrates to readers how to overcome common obstacles that frequently deter teachers from starting their own school gardens. Subjects such as obtaining funding and donated supplies for students, involving administrators, parents and volunteers, and improving soil and choosing plants for the garden are all reviewed in easy-to-read chapters. Planting guides are listed in the back of the book. Sources for grants, funding, seeds and supplies are also listed in the book.
