Thank you for your interest in Kleberg Master Gardeners.  We love to have more gardening friends in the community. If your club, group, or class is looking for a great community service project - consider Saturday mornings at the Kenedy Demonstration Garden. There are tasks large and small for all ages. Master Gardeners will assist you, and the community will benefit.

For those wishing to become Certified Master Gardeners, the 2004 class begins February 24th and ends June 1st. The classes are 5:30 p.m.- 8:30 p.m. at the County Extension Office at 729 E. Yoakum.  There is a $150. registration fee to cover handouts, resource manual, refreshments, speaker fees, and other materials that participants will receive during the 17 week course. In addition, 50 service hours are required to be completed within 12 months. Master Gardeners are asked to share their knowledge with others in the community by providing answers to gardening questions, and by serving as volunteers in landscaping, gardening, and beautification projects.  To retain certification, Master Gardeners are required to perform 15 hours of volunteer service each year for their community and to attend 12 hours of continuing education every 2 years.

A Texas Master Gardener conference is held every year in a different Texas location.  At these conferences, noted speakers discuss timely gardening and environmental topics.  Books on subjects of interest are for sale, and annual awards for Master Gardener of the Year and various gardening categories are given out.  It is a great place to meet people from all over Texas who have the same love of gardening as you do.  Attendance at a conference counts toward your continuing education requirement.
