The TEXAS GROWN Program
Coordinated by the Texas Department of Agriculture
The Texas mountain laurel symbolizes strength, durability and beauty. That's
why it was selected for the TEXAS GROWN logo -- the symbol used to
identify Texas-grown horticulture crops. You get variety, quality and adaptability
when you buy TEXAS GROWN.
As one of the top horticultural producing states in the nation, Texas boasts
a variety of products from its distinct regions. Central and Southeast
Texas produce the majority of trees, woody ornamentals and turf, while the
Rio Grande Valley produces foliage and orchids. East Texas is known for
its bedding plants, and West Texas has a budding specialty-cut flower industry.
The TEXAS GROWN program was designed by the Texas Department of Agriculture
and strongly supported by Commissioner Rick Perry, to help you identify
and buy Texas-grown horticulture products.
TEXAS GROWN is home-grown. Landscapes designed with TEXAS GROWN
plants are more likely to thrive because they're already acclimated to our
climate and soils. Buying TEXAS GROWN helps keep the economy growing
too by keeping Texas dollars in Texas.
Landscaping, floral arranging or specialty gardens, whatever you need --
from azaleas to oaks to zinnias -- Texas grows. When purchasing plant material
for your home, office or landscape, remember to buy TEXAS GROWN.
To find TEXAS GROWN plants, look for the label or call your nearest
Texas Department of Agriculture office and ask for a marketing specialist,
who will locate your nearest TEXAS GROWN dealer.

TEXAS GROWN Program Description
Mission: to promote the Texas horticulture industry by increasing
consumer demand and Texas horticultural sales.
- TEXAS GROWN is a Texas Department of Agriculture program, initiated
in 1986, designed to help consumers identify Texas-grown horticultural products
and increase sales of those products.
- A TEXAS GROWN plant must spend a least 50 percent of its crop
time before sale growing in Texas.
- Texas wholesale growers who have paid the $25 TEXAS GROWN membership
fee, are entitled to use the distinctive logo on their plant material, advertising
their affiliation with the program. Retail partners - nurseries, florists,
landscapers and retail chains - purchase plants from TEXAS GROWN
members and highlight these plants through signage and special in-store
promotions. The TEXAS GROWN logo is a registered trademark of the
Texas Department of Agriculture and only available to members of the program.
- To join TEXAS GROWN, growers must complete a brief application.
It is then approved or declined based on program requirements. Growers
accepted into the program pay an annual $25 registration fee.
- Retail partners also complete an application, for informational purposes,
but are not required to pay the registration fee.
The Texas mountain laurel symbolizes strength, durability and beauty. That's
why it was selected for the TEXAS GROWN logo.
