Educational Background: Roland Roberts earned his Ph.D. in horticulture and plant physiology in 1970 at the University of Missouri. He received his B.S. degree in horticulture from the University of Connecticut in 1958 and continued graduate study at the University of Maine and the University of Connecticut. Dr. Roberts is a Member of the Graduate Faculty,and can serve as a Co-Chair or Member of Graduate Student Advising Committees.
Professional Work: Dr. Roberts conducts Extension education in vegetable production, marketing and utilization with county Extension agents, commercial vegetable growers and Master Gardeners, on the High and Rolling Plains of northwest Texas. For 27 years he has produced demonstrations, research and educational programs on effects of environment, cultural practices, and varieties on quality and yield of potatoes, onions and other vegetables.
Professional Memberships: Roberts is educational adviser to the High Plains Vegetable Growers and Shippers Council, and a member of the Texas Vegetable Association, Texas Pepper Foundation, Texas Horticulture Society, Potato Association of America, and American Society for Horticultural Science.
Honors: Roberts received the Award of Merit from the High Plains Vegetable Growers and Shippers Council, the Vice Chancellor's Award for Excellence from Texas A&M University, the Covington Award from the Southern Region-American Society for Horticultural Science, and the Extension Division Award of Excellence from the American Society for Horticultural Science.
Presentations: Many presentations on vegetable production are given each year for clientele including: commercial vegetable growers, the West Texas Vegetable Conference, Southern Region-American Society for Horticultural Science, Texas Produce Convention, South Plains Plant Society, Master Gardener classes, community gardeners, TV interviews and the KRFE AG-ED Show in Lubbock.
